Botox

Men and women alike experience the break down of collagen and elastin fibers in the skin causing facial lines and wrinkles. After many years of laughing, squinting, frowning and smoking the skin around the eyes, mouth and forehead will begin to develop expression lines. These lines can make you look older, tired and stressed. Up until recently these lines have been very hard to treat effectively. Now there is Botulinum toxin Cosmetic, which minimizes the facial motion that is creating these wrinkles. Botulinum toxin is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium, which reduces the activity of the muscles that cause the frown lines between the brows to form over time. In 2005, almost 3.3 million procedures were performed with FDA-approved Botulinum toxin Cosmetic.

What Else Can Botulinum Toxin Be Used For?

While botulinum toxin is typically used in the area around the eyes and on the forehead, it can be used in small quantities elsewhere around the face to lift up the corners of the mouth and sometimes eliminate tense muscles in the cheek that cause the jaw to look very square.  The chin sometimes is wrinkled in appearance and can be treated with small amounts of botulinum toxin also.  Fine lines around the mouth can be treated, although the botulinum toxin may make it hard to whistle, use a strew, etc.

What Does It Entail?

The most common areas are the glabellar line (between the eyebrows), the forehead, and around the eyes. People afflicted with extensive perspiration in various areas of their body including the armpits, the palms of the hands, the genital area, and the soles of the feet, botulinum toxin is very effective in eliminating excessive perspiration for a period of three or more months.
