Laser Hair Removal
How does the treatment work?
During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The energy passes down the hair shaft and is absorbed by the hair follicles that are in the active growth phase. This energy therefore cuts off the hair follicle’s ability to grow again. The hair follicles that are in the dormant phase are not affected by this treatment, which is why more than one treatment is necessary.
What should I do to prepare for my treatment?
On the day of your laser hair removal treatment please do not apply any lotions or deodorant to the area you are treating. We request that you shave the area the day prior to coming to your appointment, but, it is important to point out that you must not wax or tweeze the area for 6 weeks prior to your laser treatment as the hair follicle must be grown in. This time will be less for facial hair.
*Please note that there will be a $15 charge if you show up to your appointment without first shaving.
What areas can be treated?
We can remove hair from all parts of the body including face (excluding the eyebrows), legs, arms, underarms, and back. Delicate and sensitive areas like the chest, nipples, and bikini line also respond well to treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Individual treatments may vary but typically a minimum of six (6) treatments are required. A variety of factors contribute to the number of treatments needed such as the thickness of the hair and the area being treated. During your consultation we will recommend how many treatments you will require.
What are the possible side effects?
Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to sunburn may occur in some patients. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur, but in most cases, minimal is experienced and no anesthesia is required.
What about sun exposure during treatments?
First and foremost, we always recommend that you apply sunscreen daily. For patients who have recently been exposed to the sun and have tanned skin we will perform the treatment four weeks from the time of exposure or use our Cutera Nd: YAG laser which has been approved for the use on tanned skin.
Is this treatment available for all skin types?

For our client that are Fitzpatrick Skin Types IV-VI we have the Cutera CoolGlide Nd:Yag laser which is FDA cleared for darker skin tones and those with tanned skin.
