How does the treatment work?
During laser hair removal, a laser beam passes through the skin to an individual hair follicle. The energy passes down the hair shaft and is absorbed by hair follicles that are in the active growth phase, thereby disabling the hair follicle in the deeper layer of the skin. The hair follicles that are in dormant phase are not affected by the treatment.
What should I do to prepare for my treatment?
On the day of your laser hair removal in Chicago please do not apply any lotions or deodorant to the area you are treating. We request that you shave the area prior to coming to your appointment but it is important to point out that you must not wax or pluck the area for 6 weeks prior to your laser treatment as the hair follicle must be grown in. This time will be less for facial hair.

What areas can be treated?
We can remove hair from all parts of the body including face, legs, arms, underarms, and back. Delicate and sensitive areas like the chest, nipples, and bikini line also respond well to treatment.
How many treatments will I need?
Individual treatments may vary but typically six treatments are required. A variety of factors contribute to the number of treatments needed such as the thickness of the hair and the area being treated. During your consultation we will recommend how many treatments you will require.
What are the possible side effects?
Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn may occur in some patients. These effects typically last for several hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. In most cases, minimal pain should be experienced and no anesthesia is required.
What about sun exposure during treatments?
First and foremost, we always recommend that you apply sunscreen daily. For patients who have recently been exposed to the sun and have tanned skin we will perform the treatment using our Cutera YAG laser which has been approved for the use on tanned skin.
