Selphyl
Selphyl™ is today’s safest most effective way to naturally promote cell regeneration, using the patient’s own platelets instead of artificial materials to correct the signs of aging and making your skin healthier and younger looking.
What is Selphyl?
Selphyl™ is the patented system by which platelets and fibrin (blood clotting proteins) are concentrated from a blood sample to make a “platelet-rich fibrin matrix” (PRFM).
What are Platelets and how do they work?
Platelets, which are an important part of the body’s ability to heal, are excellent growth-stimulators, which increase collagen production below the top layer of the skin, resulting in plumper skin with fewer lines and wrinkles.
How is a Selphyl treatment administered?
The procedure involves drawing blood from your arm and then placing the blood into a centrifuge to separate it. There is an area of plasma and platelets in the blood that actually contain what are called growth factors, that allow different areas in the body when it’s utilized to create new collagen.
What is Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix?
PRFM can be described as a gel that once injected under the skin forms a 3-dimensional matrix to which the platelets attach. By administering PRFM to areas of volume depletions, wrinkles and folds, the body’s own natural processes are signalled to produce new collagen.
What are the benefits of choosing Selphyl?
Selphyl™ is today’s safest most effective way to naturally promote cell regeneration.
Selphyl™ uses patient’s own platelets instead of artificial materials which means there is virtually no risk of allergic reaction.
Results can last up to 12 months and in some cases results have lasted 18-24 months.
Who is the best candidate for Selphyl?
Both men and women in their 30′s, 40′s and 50′s will respond the best to this treatment due to the fact it becomes very difficult to stimulate collagen as we age into our 60′s.
What can I expect from this treatment?
The treatment will provide a gradual increase in volume by helping to stimulate your bodys own collagen production. Immediately after treatment with Selphyl® platelet rich fibrin matrix (PRFM), the treated area is slightly red; this typically fades in a few hours. There is usually very little bruising, which is generally limited to a few “points” that have been injected and can easily be covered with make-up. Following your treatment, you will see immediate results. Once the initial swelling goes down, it may take up to 3 weeks to see sustained volume gain.
Are there any side effects?
Since SELPHYL® uses your own blood and does not contain any animal or synthetic components, there is virtually no risk of an allergic reaction and there have been no reported allergic reactions to date. Consequently, skin allergy testing is unnecessary prior to treatment. However, if you have a history of allergies please inform your physician. There have been no known serious side effects reported in actual usage. However, you may experience some common reactions, such as mild irritation, edema, bruising, swelling, itching, discoloration or tenderness at the injection site. These temporary conditions typically resolve themselves within one to two days.
The Process
1. During a short office visit (30 minutes), a small amount of your own blood is drawn into a vacuum collection tube containing a cell separator gel.
2. The tube is then placed into a centrifuge and spun for six minutes to separate the blood into a supernatant plasma/platelet suspension.
3. The red and white blood cells are located below the cell separator gel.
4. The platelets and plasma are then transferred in a closed system to a second vacuum tube containing a small amount of calcium chloride solution.
5. Fibrin polymerization begins and the PRP remains liquid for approximately 10 minutes before forming Platelet-rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM). LIQUID GOLD!
6. The PRFM is ready to inject.
