SmartLipo
SMARTLIPO
SmartLipo™ is a fat removal procedure that can serve as both an alternative or complement to a Liposuction treatment. Smart Lipo is a laser liposuction treatment that uses advanced technology to aid more traditional liposuction techniques.
FDA approved as one of the first laser-based lipo treatments, SmartLipo™ involves the insertion of a tiny cannula (tube) beneath the skin, above targeted fat deposits.
Attached to the cannula is a laser fiber, which effectively heats and breaks down fat cells, while also shrinking collagen levels. This is where laser liposcution gets its name.
The liquified fat created by the laser is easily drained away, and because SmartLipo™ is minimally invasive, there is much less bleeding and bruising with Smart Lipo than with traditional Liposuction.
SmartLipo™ can also be performed without a general anesthesia, reducing the risk of side effects considerably. SmartLipo™ and other laser liposuction treatments works best for relatively healthy people who wish to eliminate small, unwanted fat deposits from their thighs, hips, upper arms, and buttocks.
Smart Lipo treatments are also starting to appear at medical spas and laser clinics across the country as a high grade alternative to VelaShape and LipoDissolve.
Deciding If You Are Right For SmartLipo
Laser-assisted liposuction is most often used to reduce fat in the:
- Abdomen
- Ankles
- Arms
- Buttocks
- Cheeks
- Chin
- Hips
- Knees
- Neck
- Thighs
How It’s Done
Liposuction starts with the administration of some form of anesthesia, local anesthesia, intravenous sedation, or general anesthesia. This is accompanied by the infusion of a saline solution into the area of the body where liposuction will be performed. The solution contains medication to minimize pain and bleeding.
Next, a small hollow tube attached to a vacuum is inserted through a small incision into the fat layer beneath the skin. It’s moved around to break up the fat, which is then sucked out of the body.
SmartLipo improves on this technique, by taking advantage of the power of medical laser beams which liquefy the fat before it is sucked out of the body. In addition to ultra-precise fat removal, the laser provides a mild skin tightening effect.
Risks
The most common potential complications of laser liposuction include bruising, infection, minimal bleeding, numbness, skin burns and swelling.
What to Expect After SmartLipo
You’ll probably be sore and a little swollen for a few days following laser liposuction. Dr. Evans will provide painkillers to keep you comfortable. He may advise you to wear a special compression garment to speed healing. Everyone’s recovery is slightly different, but most people are able to return to work within a few days.
As you recover, you’ll notice that your skin may begin to tighten as the new layers of skin form. This firming may continue for up to six months after your procedure.
These techniques remove fat cells that are not recreated. If you should gain weight, it’s likely that fatty deposits will not expand in the areas where the procedure was performed.
